After a dozen years as Australia’s most-watched television network, Seven has lost the 2019 ratings season to arch-rival Nine. But in a sign of how close the result is, Nine – the owner of this masthead – isn’t crowing too loudly. It’s a far cry from the days of its memorable ‘Still the One’ promotions, in which the broadcaster’s biggest stars made a literal song and dance of their success.
All up, Nine’s suite of channels claimed an audience share of 29.4 per cent – a jump of 2.3 percentage points – while Seven ended the year on 29.0 per cent, followed by 10 (17.2 per cent), ABC (16.5 per cent) and SBS (7.9 per cent, a record high for the multicultural broadcaster).
